Welcome!

This social network was set up to discuss issues raised in the book Information Obesity, published by Chandos in April 2009. The book is about how technological change, and the ways we organise our lives, are affecting our ability to learn by using the informational resources all around us. Teaching, if done in certain ways, and community activity are suggested as the ways in which we can reverse this process. For more information see this network's accompanying "Web 1.0" site at http://www.informationobesity.com.

It's not intended to be a network to discuss physical obesity, exercise, fitness, diet, etc. - there are plenty of other networks and discussion fora for that.

Ever wonder how it's possible for so many Americans to put on a fast ten pounds during the course of the holiday season? We all see it happen to ourselves or others we know year after year, and it culminates in the same results: people are left dumb…

Having said in the book and on the resources web site that there aren't any good, online introductions to Habermas, I have now found one. It's by the man himself and while not 100% easy, it's not too difficult either and certainly introduces the mai…

How To Write A College Research Paper

College research papers are detailed reports on a specific area of research or topic, which involves the investigation of data sources. College research paper writing is an art for which different scholars have presented different suggestions whereas the aim has been the same since the very beginning i.e. to score an A+ in your College Research Papers.

The first and most important step is to come up with a manageable top… Continue

Acceptance

How to tell if your spouse really accepts him or herself - and if he or she doesn't, how to bring the subject up.

I stepped on the scale yesterday and saw that I was sixty-nine pounds down – only twelve more to go to get to my goal weight! Yahoo! Hmm…how best to mark this achievement? Well, there was one thing I needed to do that I’d been putting off: packing up those clothes that are now impossibly big for me and delivering them to the church donation bin.

I admit that this is something I’ve… Continue

Body Fat is Not Magic

There is an idea in the fat movement that body acceptance means simply saying ‘I’m fat, ah well, there’s nothing I can do, and there’s no point trying anyway’.

A more extreme example of this attitude is ‘I’m fat, there’s nothing I can do, and you can’t either. There’s no point trying, and if you do it means you hate yourself. And not only yourself but ALL fat people. If you don’t want to stay like us then you are bad, think we are bad and hate us. You are a sell-out. You are giving in to societ… Continue

Clinton, Bush say saving lives is top goal in Haiti

Getting aid to Haiti right away to save lives is the first goal of the fund-raising initiative headed by George W. Bush and Bill Clinton, the two former U.S. presidents say.
In a pre-recorded interview broadcast Sunday on CNN's "State of the Union," Bush and Clinton said the new fund created by President Barack Obama also seeks to ensure that money keeps coming in after the news media… Continue

Why I chose fitness

I was a fat kid of divorced parents, both of whom, went out of their ways to model how to hate life. They were not happy people. I can honestly say I never saw either of them having fun when they weren't drunk or eating something. When they were sober, it was gloom, gloom, gloom... my mother died of cancer when I was 10, and I'm convinced her disordered eating (I rarely saw her eat, and I recall her being very slender, but I know from photographs that she was occasionally chubby) and her frantic… Continue
