Welcome!

This social network was set up to discuss issues raised in the book Information Obesity, published by Chandos in April 2009. The book is about how technological change, and the ways we organise our lives, are affecting our ability to learn by using the informational resources all around us. Teaching, if done in certain ways, and community activity are suggested as the ways in which we can reverse this process. For more information see this network's accompanying "Web 1.0" site at http://www.informationobesity.com.

It's not intended to be a network to discuss physical obesity, exercise, fitness, diet, etc. - there are plenty of other networks and discussion fora for that.

Telling Your Spouse the Soft Way

I think that as time has evolved in my situation, I've learned some lessons that I'd like others to gain the benefit from. Hence, I am writing this guide to bringing it up with your loved one as a FIRST TIME APPROACH. I'll also include my list of WHAT NOT TO DO and tenets of support. Yes, you are going to have to play a real role and work at this to make it work. But your relationship is worth it, isn't it?

Some clarification before we begin on why I think I can help you. Let me tell you why I… Continue

Outline of Habermas's ideas

Having said in the book and on the resources web site that there aren't any good, online introductions to Habermas, I have now found one. It's by the man himself and while not 100% easy, it's not too difficult either and certainly introduces the main themes.

Information denied...

http://www.disabilitynow.org.uk/latest-news2/news-focus/cheshire-discomforts

I know the complainant here personally, but this is, in any case, an interesting story.... an example of how information can be denied to individuals even when they are greatly dependent on the organisation involved, and therefore vulnerable to abuses like this.
